Susan Attaway grew up in Shreveport, LA.

In her early twenties, she moved to New York City where she would work in photography, attend the School of Visual Arts, marry, and have two daughters. She eventually moved back to the South to be closer to family. Over the years, she continued to be involved with photography, attending workshops at International Center of Photography in New York City and Santa Fe. After taking some art courses at Louisiana State University, she began to draw and paint again, sometimes combining her photos with her paintings for a “collage effect”. The influences of New York City and the South both shine through in her work—the interplay of lines and space echo skylines, roads, and buildings of the big city, meanwhile, her fearless use of color has the look and feel of a blazing sun and of nature at it's most vibrant in a Southern summer. Her contemporary abstractions show a complex exploration and an understanding of self-reflection, possibilities, and joy.
